Cake "Tank" can be presented to a man on February 23, birthday or on a professional holiday.
As a basis for the military cake, we use one of the variants of the recipe for the Hungarian cake "Dobos" ("Dobos torta" or "Magyar").
This confectionery sculpture is made on the basis of an ordinary cake, which consists of 5-8 layers and a hard-setting cream. That is, after cooling, a homogeneous product should be obtained that retains its shape well when cutting into parts. The details of the designer form the silhouette of a military vehicle, and the cream holds them together, smoothing the contours of the tank.
For cakes: separate the yolks from the whites. Beat most of the sugar (about 120 g) with hot water and yolks. Add flour to them. Knead the dough well. It is advisable to whip it on a food processor, it is quick and less laborious.
Beat whites, remaining sugar and salt separately. Then mix the resulting white foam with the dough.
If you use parchment paper: draw a circle with a diameter of 24 or 26 cm on the back of the sheet, the contours will shine through and help form the cake of the correct shape.
Preheat the oven to 200 C, grease with butter (pinch off a piece of butter for the cream) in a silicone mold the bottom and half a centimeter of sides (the cake will be thin).
Soak the front side of the parchment sheet with oil and spread a few spoons of dough with a thin layer within the specified limits.
For the same purposes, you can use bumpers from a detachable form of a suitable size, as soon as the circle is drawn - the piece of iron can be removed, the cake does not spread.
Bake each cake in turn for 5-6 minutes on the top shelves of the oven.
The smaller the diameter of the cakes, the more they will turn out, but the tank will be taller and shorter. With a diameter of 26 cm, 5 cakes come out.
If the bottom of the cake is already very brown, and the top is still white, it is better not to wait for charring, take out and cool the hot cakes on a wire rack, or on parchment (laid out on a flat surface). They are soft and elastic, as they will lie down, in such a shape and harden.
While the cakes are cooling and hardening, prepare the cream.
If the cake cracked during transportation, it doesn't matter, it can be placed in the middle of the cake, the cream will firmly glue all the layers and this will not affect the quality of the final product.
Then cool to room temperature. Until then, brew coffee with a little hot water.
For him, put chopped chocolate into small pieces in a refractory dish and put it in a still warm oven (it melts at 25 - 33 degrees).
Combine melted butter with icing sugar and salt, add coffee. Beat the products into a thick homogeneous mass, 5-8 tablespoons of which should be set aside in a separate bowl (you will need it for decoration).
Add melted chocolate to the main part of the cream, beat.
Spread some melted chocolate on a parchment sheet with a wooden spatula, a layer of about 2 mm, let it freeze. Subsequently, it will be required for decorative finishing of the confectionery building.
If the creamy mass seems thin to you, it is not scary, both butter and chocolate are now melted, and in the cold they will solidify again, restoring the necessary strong structure.
Grease the cakes with cream and form a regular round cake. Cover it with foil and cool until the cream completely hardens (at least 1 hour).
To create the tank, further we need to give the main part (the body of the tank) a rectangular shape.
The chocolate cream will remain, it will be required when building the sweet tank.
1.two, larger ones, on the sides (in this case, the cut line forms the length of the rectangle);
2.two small pieces at the back and front (the cut line forms the width of the rectangle).
To do this, separate 4 parts from the cake:
Turn the long slices so that they are cut up, with the greased side facing the body of the tank. This is the prototype of the chassis (tracks and wheels).
These scraps + details from the rear and front of the military vehicle (see item 2) will be used to form its tower. The small ones can be laid out flat, and the two larger ones can be leaned against each other (as if by doubling the number of cakes in this moon-shaped part) and the resulting figure can be placed perpendicular to the surface of the tank. Be sure to insert the firing part of the combat vehicle - the cannon, securing it with cream and clamping it between the parts of the tower. I used a long waffle stick. In addition, for the muzzle of the cannon, you can use a bread straw, roll it out of sugar mastic (wrap a pencil, moisten the junction with water and fasten it. Then dry it and remove it from the pencil). Get creative. Go shopping, you will surely see what is useful to you.
You have probably noticed that it is higher than in a regular tank, and the rounded part of the part that turned out to be at the bottom is not quite stable. Therefore, we cut off a couple of centimeters at the bottom. The base of this part will firmly sit on the platter and bring our tank closer in outline to real combat vehicles.
If during the erection of the tower extra bulging parts were found, cut off all unnecessary ones. In addition, a deftly applied layer of cream will help smooth the shape.
Once the silhouette of the tank is formed, apply camouflage. For him, divide the coffee cream into 2 parts, add green food coloring to one part.
With the back of a small coffee spoon or with a stack, apply camouflage broad strokes to the military vehicle.
Fill the syringe with cream (choose a color that is contrasting with the color of the undercarriage), draw tracks and other details and inscriptions that you need.
Separate the chocolate previously smeared on paper from the paper, chop finely, leaving a small plate intact (2x2 cm), sprinkle the armor of the tank with chopped armor-chocolate.
Lubricate the undercarriage of the tank with cream of the same color. Glue the wheels (made of cookies) and the hatch in the tower. How to make an asterisk? Can be cut from sugar mastic, marmalade.
When working on a cake for a long time, sweet traces and crumbs will inevitably remain on the platter (the dish on which the tank is located), they must be gently shaken off and removed with a napkin.
At the end of the pastry work, cover the tank with a foil awning and place in a cold hopper to fully solidify the cream.
Sprinkle the top with powdered sugar or coconut. After all, on February 23 we still have snow.
